Employers Workplace Safety Responsibilities
Employers’ Workplace Safety Responsibilities
We spend the majority of our lives at work. In order to prevent workplace injuries, employers are responsible for providing a safe, healthy, and secure working environment for their employees. These responsibilities are outlined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and include an obligation to:
- Provide safe tools, materials, and equipment for employee use
- Ensure tools and facilities are properly maintained
- Report a fatal accident to the OSHA within eight hours
- Report an accident that results in three or more employees being hospitalized to the OSHA within eight hours
- Provide all employees with proper safety training and a medical evaluation when required
All employers in Oklahoma are required to carry Workers’ Compensation insurance, even if the company only has one part-time employee. The policy must be issued by an insurance carrier that is authorized by the Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner. If an employer fails to meet these standards, they are subject to fines and other penalties.
If you have been seriously injured at your workplace, please contact Self & Associates today for help with your Workers’ Compensation claim. Our experienced Oklahoma City Workers’ Comp lawyers can help you successfully navigate this complex system to ensure you obtain the benefits you deserve.
